Managing Mitigations

(Return to the Mitigations Main Menu)

When the Mitigation screen opens the User is presented with the Mitigations grid pre-filtered to show Recommended and Active Mitigation Tasks as follows:

New style Mitigations

The Mitigations are grouped together in pairs showing one Recommended Task and one Active Task.   This allows the User to easily see the differences, if any, between the new Recommended Mitigation Tasks and the existing Active ones.

This display is a more up to date and easier to read version of the old-style mitigations with the recommendations in one grid and the Active plan in another grid as follows:

Old-style Mitigations

Editing Mitigation Tasks

A User can Edit Active and Recommended Tasks by clicking on the hyperlink in the Method column.  This opens a dialog box which should be familiar to current AllAssets Users

The User can manage the Task in the same way that they are used to, with one significant difference.  Users can now edit Active Tasks as well as the Recommended Tasks.  With the old Mitigations, this was not possible.

If the User makes a change that alters the Due Date the application ensures that the change in date is noted and noticeable.  In the Mitigation Grid the Application shows two Due Date fields, namely the Due Date and the Original Due Date

The User can also enter Data in to the additional fields in the Mitigation Plan such as Availability, Location and Preparation.  This edit is done in-line with the Mitigation Task and most importantly this Data is retained for the new Mitigation Tasks once the current Task is closed/completed.

Working with Recommendations

When the User sees Recommendations in the Mitigation Plan for an Asset, these have been generated from one of two sources:

  • A Risk Run
  • An Inspection Report or Thickness Report being linked to a Mitigation Plan

In either case, it is the responsibility of the User to decide whether to Reject the Recommendation or to make it an Active Task.  A mitigation plan can only have one Active Task for a combination of Mechanism, Method and Extent.

In the case below the User can see that the current Active Task for UT has a frequency of 10 years, but due to a probable change in Risk the Recommended UT Task has a frequency of 5 Years.

The User clicks on the "Recommended" link in the Task which opens the following dialog :

The User must decide to:

  1. Activate the Recommendation  - This will flag the existing Active Recommendation as Rejected and set the current Recommendation to be Active, thus changing the Planned activity for the Asset, and in this case above, changing the Due date from 2031 to 2026
  2. Reject the Recommendation - This flags the Recommended Task as Rejected and leaves the Active Task, with the 10 Year interval and due date of 2031 in place
  3. Cancel - Take no action at this stage.

Working with Active Tasks

Active Tasks represent the current Mitigation Plan for the Asset and as highlighted earlier in this article the User can edit the current Active Tasks.

When the User uploads Inspection Reports or Thickness Reports the Application will link these new Reports to Active Tasks by means of the Master Inspection Method associated with the Report.  This process changes the status of the Task from Active to Closed.  Additionally the Application creates a copy of the Active (now closed) Task and generates a new Recommended Task in the Mitigation Plan.

The only change of status that the User can make on an Active Task is to set the Task as Rejected.   The User clicks on the Active Hyperlink in the Task and sees the following dialog box

Working with Closed Tasks

An Active Task becomes Closed when the Application links an Inspection Report or a Thickness Report to the Task.  Closed Tasks are not editable.

In the older Versions of AllAssets this process happened in the background and there appeared to be little visible change.  The new process is more active and User friendly.  The completed Task is flagged as  Closed and the link between the Closed Task and the Report is created and retained.  The User is able to access the completed Report from within the Mitigation Plan by clicking on the ">>" hyperlink next to the Method in the closed Task, as follows:

The Application redirects the User to the Completed VI-Ext Report for this Asset as follows:

Working with Rejected Tasks

Rejected Tasks are not editable, and simply provide the User with a record of either Recommended or Open Tasks which have been rejected by the User.

It is possible to Re-Activate a Rejected Task but the User must be aware that this re-activated task may clash with a current Active Task.  The User must check the Mitigation plan for any duplicated tasks created by re-activating a Rejected Task.
